Ever watch videos on Facebook at work, in line at the bank or in a doctor’s waiting room?
Yep, me too.
That’s why I hate Facebook’s recent announcement about video autoplay with sound, a new feature rolling out on Facebook mobile.
So, if you don’t want everyone to hear what you are watching, here is how to turn off Facebook videos from automatically playing with sound on your phone:
iOS:
- Tap on the three line hamburger menu in the bottom right corner of the Facebook app on your iPhone
- Choose Settings, then tap on Account Settings
- Tap “Videos and Photos”
- Toggle off “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound”
Android:
- Tap on the three line hamburger menu in the top right corner of the Facebook app on your Android phone
- Tap App Settings under “Help & Settings”
- Toggle off “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound”
Unless you want to keep your phone permanently silenced (or wear headphones in public), turning off the option to play automatically with sound is your best choice.
Autoplay with sound is slowly rolling out, so you may not have the option yet on your device.
Now back to those videos!
