What do we mean when we say “metrics”?
Metrics are the numbers you will measure against or the result from measuring. How and what you measure is up to you.
What do we mean when we use the word “analytics”?
Analytics is analyzing what the metrics tell you. It’s the examination, scrutinization, inspection, and interpretation of your metrics for patterns, ideas, and maybe even inspiration.
Naturally, analytics and metrics will go hand-in-hand. In the simplest terms, you measure your goals and then analyze the data to see why certain things worked or didn’t work.
(Seriously, playing with data is one of the most fun things about our job. Hopefully, you’ll feel the same way after reading this!)
