Merger: Skyfire Consulting has announced it has been acquired by Echelon AI, an autonomous and swarming AI company for Uncrewed Aerial Systems, backed by Andrew Ng’s AI Fund. The combined entity, SkyfireAI, will integrate AI with UAV/UAS technologies to support critical missions for public safety and global defense applications.

Research: HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is advancing research to create peanuts resistant to aflatoxins, harmful toxins that threaten crops. Aflatoxins, produced by Aspergillus fungi in hot, humid environments, pose serious health risks and cause economic losses for farmers when crops become contaminated. To address this, Clevenger’s team is using biotechnology to study antioxidant pathways in plants, such as walnuts and buckwheat, to enhance peanuts’ resistance to these toxins.

Ranking: Huntsville has been named a Top City for Tech Talent Growth, ranking #1 on CBRE’s annual list of up-and-coming tech markets for the third year.

City Budget: Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said expanding city services, like police and fire stations, is his top priority in the city’s next budget, estimated at $289 million. Battle’s proposal would increase the city’s police operating budget by 5% and the budget for fire and rescue by more than 7%.
