Development: Free People and FP Movement will open new stores at Stadium Commons, marking the brands’ first Huntsville locations and FP Movement’s first standalone store in Alabama. They join Ferren Boutique, VSL Nails, and a soon-to-be-announced two-story high-end restaurant from Power Brands, whose portfolio includes Juniper’s Kitchen, Melt, One Eleven, Phil Sandoval’s, Prohibition, and Saw’s BBQ.
The $145 million mixed-use development—located off Memorial Parkway near Joe Davis Stadium—has already welcomed Hattie B’s as its first tenant, with the remaining retail and office space slated for completion by year-end.

Development: Eli Lilly has announced plans to build a $6 billion advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Huntsville, marking the largest private industrial investment in Alabama’s history. The next-generation campus in the Greenbrier area will produce small-molecule and peptide medicines, including components for oral treatments currently in regulatory review, and is expected to create hundreds of high-value jobs along with thousands of construction roles once work begins in 2026 and completes in 2032.

Government
FBI: The FBI’s footprint in North Alabama continues to expand, with officials confirming plans to grow from 2,200 to 4,000 personnel at Redstone Arsenal by 2030. Speaking at the Redstone Update, leaders described the Richard Shelby Center for Innovation and Advanced Technology as the bureau’s most advanced training hub, complete with immersive facilities like a mock hotel, courtroom, and ER hospital used for cyber and forensics training. When construction wraps by 2030, the Huntsville campus will host multiple technology and training buildings and train an estimated 13,000 personnel annually.

Defense
Expansion: Astroscale U.S. has signed a Strategic Presence Statement and Facility Use Agreement with Huntsville-based DESE Research, giving the on-orbit services company a formal foothold in the Rocket City space ecosystem. The agreement allows Astroscale U.S. to share office space with DESE — a long-established defense and space research firm — and better serve local customers while deepening connections with Huntsville’s research and innovation community.

Healthcare
Wellness Center: Madison Hospital has announced that its Wellness Center will close on January 4, 2026, with plans to convert the space into an outpatient care facility to better serve the area’s growing health care needs. Hospital leadership said the transition won’t result in layoffs and doesn’t affect the separate Wellness Center in Jones Valley, and they’re working to help current members find alternative fitness options.

Education
Groundbreaking: Huntsville City Schools has broken ground on a $56 million project that will rebuild Montview Elementary and create a reimagined STEM Magnet Elementary School on a shared 18-acre campus. The 110,000-square-foot facility will house both schools—each with dedicated instructional spaces—and will serve pre-K through 5th grade when it opens in August 2027 as part of the district’s 10-year, $600 million capital plan. The project includes specialized classrooms, STEM labs, flexible learning areas, and multiple student amenities, with McMillan Pazdan Smith, TCU Consulting Services, and First Team, Inc. leading design and construction.
